Affectionately known as Looney Hill, "a thoroughly sane but somewhat unconventional community." Lou & Anna Remont hired the Walton Brothers to design & construct this Arts & Crafts bungalow in 1909. William McKee Walton was an Architect but also a gifted watercolorist (designing many of the early posters & set designs for various Rose Valley stage productions), bookbinder & potter. His Brother Herbert Walton was a builder, stonemason, iron craftsman, sculptor & an actor. A simple stone & cedar shake 2-story cottage was enhanced with a small glass vestibule for the kitchen and a delightful arbor covered in Trumpet Vine connecting to the driveway. Tucked at the far corner of the property is a unique 2-sided, 2-car garage that also has additional storage between the garage bays and a garden shed attached to the rear. Shortly after its construction, the entry hall was enlarged to provide a larger gathering room and the 2nd full bath upstairs. The original living room has a wood burning fireplace. A coat closet is tucked under the front staircase. The large dining room faces South and has two sets of French doors to either the side patio or the covered rear porch. An original built-in china cabinet is tucked into one wall. There is a powder room at the end of a small hallway that is between the dining room & kitchen. The cozy kitchen was last modified in the 1950 s, and clearly, some creative genius will figure out how best to modernize and/or expand this space. There is a direct exit to the glass enclosed rear porch & vine covered pergola mentioned earlier. There is a rear staircase and access to the basement from the kitchen area as well. On the second floor, there are four bedrooms. One of the full baths is accessed directly from the hallway, while the 2nd full bath is accessed through the smallest of the bedrooms. Off the master bedroom (with two closets) is access to the 2nd floor sleeping porch! This space provides fantastic views of the woods & creek below. In the hallway is a very large double linen closet with a built-in chest of drawers. The third floor (currently un-heated) is finished and has two additional areas that could possibly be converted into a large master suite with some creative re-configuring & maybe the addition of some dormers. The basement has the laundry facilities & high ceilings. Back in the day, this area was used for additional living space & a work room. There is also a door directly to the rear yard, making it very easy to gain access for larger items. The bones of this house are really lovely, but yes, you will need to do a lot of work to bring it up to today's standards.
